Donor: FCDO – Africa-Led Movement (ALM) Programs
through Options
Grant Period: August 2024 – August 2025
Overview:
This initiative supports the Africa-Led Movement (ALM) to end Female Genital
Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) by empowering grassroots organizations and
activists. The program emphasizes building the capacity of women-led, girl-led,
youth-led, and women’s rights organizations to lead transformative change in
their communities. The project activities include facilitating anti FGM dialogues between mothers, mothers and daughters and cutters. Additionally we offer psychosocial support to FGM survivors. This project is implemented in Omar, Madax Geesi, Arba Dawolo and Dalsan villages in Bura Subcounty.
Objective:
- The primary goal is to strengthen the Africa-Led Movement to eliminate FGM/C and other forms of gender-based violence by providing small grants and strategic support to those directly impacted—women and girls at the grassroots level. These grants aim to enable community-driven efforts to:
- Advocate for the eradication of harmful practices such as FGM/C.
- Amplify the voices of women, girls, and youth in the fight against gender-based violence.
- Foster community-led initiatives that challenge and change societal norms around FGM/C.
- Build sustainable networks of activists who can influence policies and practices both locally and globally.
Impact:
The program seeks to empower women and girls to lead change while ensuring
their voices are central in shaping the discourse around ending FGM/C. Through
collaboration with grassroots organizations, the initiative will also
strengthen the capacity of these groups to engage in advocacy, education, and
community mobilization efforts, creating a ripple effect of positive change at
local, national, and international levels.
