Who We are
The Semi-Arid Resilience Network (SARN) is a dynamic NGO dedicated to empowering communities in Kenya's semi-arid regions. Operating in Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, and Tana River counties, we champion sustainable, community-driven solutions that align with county development priorities, UN Sustainable Development Goals for Vision 2030 and Agenda 2063.To achieve this, SARN focuses on Youth Development, Peace and Security, Social Protection, Policy and Governance, Climate Action and Resilience, Alternative Livelihoods, Research, Partnership and Knowledge Management.
Our Journey
Semi-Arid Resilience Network (SARN) began as a Community-Based Organization in 2017 under the name Semi-Arid Health Initiative. Over the years, it evolved into a fully-fledged NGO in 2019, and in 2024, following consultations with community members, partners, and development actors, it rebranded to its current name, Semi-Arid Resilience Network.
SARN operates with well-established structures that guide decision-making and foster partnerships for implementing community-based programs. These programs align with County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs) and County Engagement Forums. As a member of the Civil Society Organization (CSO) network and a pillar head for peace and social action in Garissa’s County Engagement Forum, SARN is committed to driving impactful change. We work across Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, and Tana River counties.
